A Journey of Hope: Laura & Alan’s Path to Parenthood Through Surrogacy

Laura & Alan’s journey begins

Laura & Alan’s path to parenthood began with a challenging diagnosis. Laura was born with MRKH, a rare condition where the womb doesn't fully develop, making pregnancy impossible despite having functioning ovaries. Determined to become parents, they explored various surrogacy clinics worldwide and ultimately chose WCOB in Ukraine.

Why Ukraine?

After extensive research, Laura & Alan found WCOB's program in Ukraine comprehensive and transparent. «The program was good, it was detailed, and the information package was easy to understand,» the couple recalls. They were impressed with the clear communication and the structured process WCOB offered.

Communication and support

From the onset, their coordinator Daria played a pivotal role. «Our coordinator Daria was always in touch with us. She is a very kind person and was easy to talk to,» Laura shares. The couple also formed a strong bond with their surrogate, Viktoria, whom they describe as their guardian angel. «Yes, we still have a weekly relationship with our surrogate. Viktoria is an amazing person,» Laura adds.

Preparing for parenthood

The couple's journey was not without its challenges. Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, their surrogate was moved to Cyprus for safety. Laura and Alan were there for the 20-week scan, preparing for the birth of their son with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. «I read a lot of books and blogs, bought the baby furniture and clothes. I’ve wanted to be a parent for 20 years, I just knew that when I got to hold my baby boy that everything would fall into place, and it did,» Laura reflects.

July 6th, 2024 - a year of firsts

Reflecting on their first year as parents, Laura shares the emotional highs and lows. «This was a year of firsts for both of us. It wasn’t a year of finishing a cup of tea, or eating a meal without interruption, or getting to have a nice long shower. It was a year where I got to know a new me, a year where I turned up every single day no matter how tired or how emotional I felt. A year of holding you in my arms, a year of singing to you to calm you down, a year of waking to your amazing smile. A year that flew by all too quickly, and now I sit beside you wishing you a very special first birthday. I don’t remember the sleepless nights, the brain fog, or the days when I forgot to brush my teeth. I remember you, your smile, your laugh, and how you healed my soul. Happy first birthday, Levon, lots of love, Mama.»

Gratitude and reflection

Gratitude permeates their journey. «Thank you, you are such a lovely person. Your job makes such a difference to parents. You’re very kind and warm, and you always had a smile on your face,» the couple expresses, acknowledging the support and kindness they received.
